The New Primitives series is a contemporary interpretation of primitive aesthetics. The objects are sculpted out of hefty concrete blocks, an intensive and physical process which is explicated by the scars on their surfaces. Once shaped, the concrete is treated like natural stones, using specific pigments and waxes, providing it with new textures and allowing the concrete to feel like an original, natural material. The New Primitives were made for Harvest, an exhibition by Dutch Invertuals and can be used both as a bench and a side table. Pictures by Ronald Smits
