Brick Cast Modules – Made during a residence at the Design Museum in Ghent – Making 85,000 bricks from the waste of Ghent’s citizens? Design Museum Gent shows it’s possible. Driven by “Do the Right DING,” we’re turning DING, our new wing, into a paragon of sustainable building. Experimentation and research are at the heart of this initiative. Thus, we’ve developed a brand new facade brick made from waste streams. This manufacturing process can be witnessed live at Het Arsenaal from April 20 to May 11, 2024. For three weeks, we transform the halls of the old railway site into a real workshop where you can see the brick being pressed from the waste of Ghent’s citizens right before your eyes. To clarify the production process for everyone, storytellers on site share everything about the Gent Waste Brick for DING and explain what makes it so special. Besides the workshop, there’s also a studio where designers experiment and create their own work with the same waste material. Pictures by Design Museum Gent
